Sikhote-Alin Meteorite

This ancient fragment, dating back 3.5 billion years, originates from an iron meteorite that impacted the remote Sikhote-Alin Mountains in Russia in February of 1947.

The meteorite entered Earth's atmosphere before violently exploding mid-air due to atmospheric pressure. This powerful explosion shattered windows, created sonic booms, and left impact craters scattered across the dense forested landscape.

Approximately 23 tonnes of rock fragments made the journey through our atmosphere and landed on earth. These include small shrapnel-like fragments, formed by the mid-air explosion, and larger masses which impacted the surface directly.

This XL Sikhote-Alin Meteorite has been displayed and elegantly mounted in a museum quality deep box frame, by our expert in house team.
