Gebil-Kamil Meteorite

The Gebil-Kamil meteorite struck Egypt around 3000 BC, leaving a large crater surrounded by large iron shrapnel. Today, the site of where the Gebil-Kamil meteorite fell is now known as the “Kamil Crater” located in the region of Al Wadi al Jadid in the East Uweinat Desert.

The specimen is primarily made of the minerals Schierbersite, a rare iron nickel-mineral and Kamacite, an iron-nickel alloy found only in Meteorites. It has been classified as an “Ataxite” , a form of iron meteorite containing no Widmanstätten pattern upon etching.

This Gebil-Kamil Meteorite (4.5 billion years old) has been mounted in a museum quality deep box frame by a member of our in-house team.
