Campo Del Cielo Meteorite Fragment

Campo Del Cielo Meteorites, thought to have been formed over 4.5 billion years ago, are named after the area of Northern Argentina in which they are found.

While Spanish explorers officially documented this site in 1576, indigenous communities had been sharing stories of the impact for generations. The meteorites themselves, composed primarily of iron, were repurposed by native people to craft weapons and tools. 

The total weight of the pieces recovered is about 100 tonnes, making the meteorite possibly the greatest ever recovered.

This Campo Del Cielo Meteorite (4.5 billion years old) has been mounted in a museum quality deep box frame by a member of our in-house team.
