Pachycephalosaurus (“Thick Headed Lizard”)

Diet: Undiscovered, possibly Herbivore

The Pachycephalosaurus lived during the Maastrichtian Age of the Late Cretaceous Period. Excavated in parts of the USA and Canada, the first discovered remains of the Pachylosaurus may date back as far as the 1850s. A unique characteristic of this creature was its domed skull, containing skull roofs of around 22cm thick.

Used as a battering ram, the thick domed skull of a Pachycephalosaurus was used to head butt trees to intimidate predators, or alternatively for inter-species combat to assert dominance.

Scientists are yet to definitively discover what the Pachycephalosaurus’ diet was, however it is suggested that the species was a herbivore.

This sculpture has been mounted on a bespoke solid oak stand.

Base: Solid European Oak, locally sourced from our Cheshire-based supplier and specially selected for a smooth grain. Hand-finished to order in our studio with black wood varnish and a soft felted underside.
An engraved metal plaque displays the name and age of the dinosaur depicted.
