    Otodus obliquus, was one of the earliest mackerel sharks, and a precursor to the Great White and Megalodon shark. Their teeth are noted for their wide triangular crown and large side cusps on the root. The name Otodus comes from Ancient Greek meaning "ear-shaped tooth". Otodus obliquus ruled the ocean's during the Early Eocene and Paleocene epochs approximately 60 - 45 million years ago, ​​and preyed upon fish, sea turtles, whales, and manatees.
